The extensive selection process, which involves the VCA course coordinators
and external industry professionals, is based on artistic merit and potential.

Rebecca Moore - 2008

Rebecca was the inaugural recipient of the foundation's
Music Theatre Award in 2008.

Rebecca moved to Melbourne to further her Arts studies and duxed VCE music in 2004.
Following completion of her VCA studies Rebecca used the travel section
of the award to undertake further studies in the New York and London where she studied with industry professionals, participated in master-classes and gained performance experience. 
Rebecca is now also a Director of the Ron and Margaret Dobell Foundation.


Evan Lever - 2011



Evan graduated from VCA in 2011 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music Theatre). 

During his time at the VCA Evan was awarded the Marion Thomas Estate Scholarship prior to receiving the 2011 Music Theatre Award which he used to travel to New York and London to further his studies.


Alex Gibson-Giorgio - 2014

Alex was a graduate from the NIDA Diploma of Music Theatre course and was a featured soloist in the Schools Spectacular from 2002-2009.

He graduated from VCA with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music Theatre) in 2014.

Alex was the recipient of a creative scholarship over his three years at the VCA prior to being awarded the Music Theatre Award on graduating.


Tayla Johnston - 2015

Tayla was one of five students selected for the 2014 Global Atelier to New York.
Whilst there she participated in masterclasses with Broadway casting agent Bob Kline, vocal coach Andrew Bryne and Julliard tutor Deb Lapidus.

She travelled to London in early 2016 to do a variety of vocal coaching workshops to hone her style and repertoire.


Nicola Bowman - 2016

Originally from the UK, Nicola joined the VCA in 2013 as part of the Music Theatre Foundation programme. 

Earlier in 2016, she was a featured vocalist in Morning Melodies: Best of Broadway (dir. Margot Fenley) presented by Arts Centre Melbourne.

Following her selection as the recipient of the Award for 2016 Nicola was selected in the top 30 for the 2016 Rob Guest Endowment Award.

Jessica Vellucci - 2017

Jessica began her formal Music Theatre training at Patrick Studios.

She was been a back-up dancer in Twisted Broadway and Australia's Got Talent, a vocalist in Candyman and featured in the ABC Bastard Boys.

During her time at VCA she was also a featured vocalist in Morning Melodies: Best Of Broadway at the Arts Centre Melbourne prior to being the recipient of the Award on graduating at the end of 2017.

Jess pictured with Marty Alix the inaugural recipient of the foundation award for most outstanding audition for 2017. 

Willow Sizer - 2018

Willow is the inaugural winner of the Dobell Scholarship artist in residence
opportunity with Finucane & Smith.

Jayde Kirchert - 2018

Jayde's production of Ascent is the inaugural winner of the Melbourne Fringe Festivals ShowSupport grant.
